Tencent Digital (Hamish) Now that I've been using Google Pixel C for almost a year, it was one of the most powerful Android tablets on the market at the time. After long-term use, I still agree with this view, but the main reason is that there is no competitor who can challenge its position.
Pixel C's hardware configuration is quite mature. Unlike other Android tablets I've used for a long time, Pixel C hasn't experienced any problems with system stammering or reduced battery life.
Objectively speaking, the configuration of Nvidia processors and 3GB of memory is not the top in the industry, but they are already powerful enough. You can use Pixel C to smoothly switch on the desktop navigation interface, even for the most demanding Android games did not delay it.
In the recent Android Marshmallow update, Pixel C has made a number of minor bugs, making it a fairly reliable tablet.
Pixel C is powered by a native Android system, which means it will almost certainly be able to upgrade to Android Nougat later this year.
Pixel C's screen is the best of the Android tablets I've ever seen, although the performance of this screen has not yet reached the level of the 9-inch iPad Pro. Pixel C's screen has superior color uniformity, color balance, and brightness levels.
Pixel C's battery life is impressive, with electricity for three days of daily use. Before I go to work and sleep, I will use it to watch some streaming animation videos. In addition, I will occasionally browse some webpages, view my social media information and play some small games.
Frequent use will result in accelerated power loss. Pixel C now consumes 10-15% of video per hour compared to 9-12% in the past; now it uses 25% of power per hour in the past. About 15%.
Pixel C's keyboard is comfortable to use and the keyboard's workmanship is impeccable, but I have encountered many problems when charging it. When I put the tablet face down on the keyboard for charging, I often find that the keyboard is not charging.
When Pixel C was just listed, I did not recommend buying it because it was overpriced at 399 euros (about RMB 2,922). Now that Google is reducing its prices, it just proves that the prices were not reasonable at the time.
There are not many Android tablets on the market that can compete with Pixel C, but at the IFA conference in September this year, Lenovo and Samsung are expected to come up with their own new products. Later this year, Google may also release Nexus 7. Let us look forward to what challenges Pixel C will face.
At the beginning of the listing, Google had stated that Pixel C is "the most powerful Android tablet ever." This tablet is equipped with many powerful hardware, including the Infinitus X1 processor, a 10.2 inch high score screen of 2560 x 1800 pixels. And no bolt-type optional keyboard.
However, Apple iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro 4 are constantly competing with Pixel C for potential customers. Fortunately, Pixel C is the most powerful Android tablet on the market, and it has a strong appeal for Android users.
design
In addition to Chromebook Pixel, Pixel C is a small number of products designed by Google.
Whether it is work or games, Pixel C's goal is to become "flagship Android tablet." From the instant of unpacking, I thought it was a big step forward compared to the HTC OEM's Nexus 9. Its body consists of a simple metal frame. The weight of 517 grams means that you can hold it more comfortably, but its edge is sharper than I thought.
Pixel C's body is made of electroplated aluminum, which makes it look more textured and more resistant to wear in everyday use.
The model I reviewed was shipped with an optional keyboard, which sold for 119 euros (about 870 yuan). The keyboard and body use a magnetic docking technique that does not require any hooks or locks. You just need to put the body closer to the keyboard and they will automatically stick together, but then you have to connect them via Bluetooth.
This kind of magnetic docking technology is not Google's turn, Surface Cover 4's Type Cover keyboard and Apple's iPad Pro also support similar functions, and their keyboard adsorption is directly available.
In addition, Pixel C often suffers from some input delays on the keyboard, occasionally stalling and input failure. Its keyboard key layout is a bit too dense, but given the size of 242 x 179 x 7mm, this layout is excusable. Like the Apple iPad Pro, Pixel C's keyboard doesn't have a touchpad, so if you want to use it as a desktop laptop, you're better equipped with a Bluetooth mouse.
screen
The Pixel C's screen is 10.2 inches, which is relatively small in the hybrid tablet market. In contrast, Apple iPad Pro's screen size is 12.9 inches, while Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 is 12.3 inches.
Although many users prefer large screens, Pixel C is more portable than these products. From the overall screen effect, Pixel C's performance is more colorful. The 2560 x 1800 pixel screen has 308 ppi per inch, which makes text and icons easier to read.
Google said that this screen covers the sRGB full color gamut, with a maximum brightness of 500 nits. I have reservations about this argument. After all, there is still no Android tablet that can cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut. However, from a naked perspective, this screen is indeed quite good.
Pixel C's color does not appear too thick or too cold, the screen angle is also very wide. Its brightness is really high, for which I had to turn down the screen brightness to 60%.
software
Unlike Google's Chromebook Pixel, released last year, Pixel C is running the Android 6.0 Marshmallow system, not Chrome OS.
This is a major decision. Despite Google's efforts to promote Chrome OS based on cloud applications, the development of this system has not been as good as Android. With Android 6.0, Pixel C users are free to download applications on the Google Play App Store for entertainment and work.
However, there is also a problem here. Most Android applications do not optimize the physical buttons. This means that game players cannot use the physical buttons of the keyboard to manipulate the game, but still use the touch screen. Hopefully, Google will be able to improve this in the near future.
Pixel C is powered by Android 6.0, which was released earlier this year with Google's Nexus 5X and Nexus 5P. This version of the system includes a wealth of new features, including privacy controls, Doze power-saving features and enhanced Google Now.
Privacy control allows users to customize the data permissions of the application; Doze power-saving function can detect when the user's tablet is in an inactive state, and then turn off some unnecessary background functions to save power; after upgrading Google Now can The application calls out by long pressing the Home button.
In addition, Google added Google Now voice control and four far-field microphones for Pixel C. This feature is similar to the technology on the Amazon smart speaker Echo, which will fundamentally improve Pixel C's speech recognition capabilities.
With the "OK Google" command, users can control the device from the other end of the room. Even in a noisy environment, the device can determine the user's voice instructions.
Of course, Pixel C still has many problems on the system. For example, Android 6.0's multitasking function is weak, it cannot implement a multi-window mode like a laptop, and there are also some applications specifically optimized for the tablet on Google Play. Through the combination of the above factors, Pixel C's system is not satisfactory.
performance
From the book data, Pixel C is a powerful Android tablet. The main reason is that it is equipped with the X1 quad-core processor provided by Nvidia, but also with Maxwell architecture graphics and 3GB of DDR4 memory.
It may be due to the use of the less popular NVIDIA processor, so we can't find it on the security Bunny. In the Geekbench test, Pixel C's multi-core performance score was 4188 points. In the 3DMark Icestorm Unlimited and Slingshot website tests that tested the performance of the graphics card, Pixel C scored 41400 points and 2856 points respectively. These scores are the highest in the Android tablet.
In comparison, Nexus 9 scored 3562 points in the Geekbench test. The performance of the Samsung flagship Galaxy Tab S2 is still not as good as that of Pixel C. Its Geekbench test scored 3562 points and Icestorm Unlimited scored 19,306 points.
In actual use, the performance of Pixel C is basically consistent with the test results. It opens the application basically in milliseconds. At the moment I haven't seen any 3D games and it can't run smoothly. In short, it is currently the most powerful Android tablet.
battery
Since the Android system generates more system requests, the Android tablet usually consumes more power than the iPad. However, I was surprised to find that Pixel C's battery life is not much worse than iPad Air 2. In dealing with Netflix video and games, its built-in 34.2Wh battery did not disappoint me.
When playing Netflix and BBC iPlayer video, Pixel C's power consumption is 9-12% per hour, while other Android tablets consume 15-20% power per hour when conducting similar tests.
In game tests of Warhammer Mission, Shadow Strike, and Riptide Speedboat 2, Pixel C's power consumption is 15-18% per hour, and 20-25% for other Android tablets.
In daily use, Pixel C's power can generally be maintained for three days. Daily use includes viewing social media information, browsing the web, playing an hour of games, streaming music through a Chromecast while I'm cooking, and watching several TV shows before going to bed.
camera
The camera function on the tablet is usually not the focus, these cameras only provide some emergency use.
Pixel C seems to want to reverse this situation, its rear camera level is higher than other tablet computers. This camera's automatic mode is true in normal light, the picture is neat, and there is no sharp picture on the social network.
However, when the light is dimmed, the color of the Pixel C camera starts to shift and the background noise starts to increase. Of course, this is not a big problem. There is no tablet computer that can work well in low light.
Pixel C's front camera is quite good enough for Skype video calls and Hangouts hangouts.
Audio frequency
The Pixel C is equipped with two-sided stereo speakers, and the audio quality is remarkable by the standard of the tablet computer.
Pixel C's maximum volume is less than Lenovo's Yoga Tab 3 Pro, but it's still at the top of the Android tablet, and you can use it to clearly hear the lines in the TV series.
The bass performance of this tablet is not the best, but it is still much better than some low-end Android tablets.
Since I took Pixel C in October 2015, it has been my main tablet. Whether it is at home or attending some activities, I carry it.
Although my Pixel C is running the Android 6.0.1 system, it still has some latency issues with keystrokes, and this often happens.
Now I am very much looking forward to the release of Android, 7.0 Nutella system later this year, because the new system will bring multi-window support and a better notification system. As a device running a pure Android system, obviously Pixel C will also be upgraded in the first time, which will make this device more powerful.
